Frequently Asked Questions
General vehicle auctions at Bawtry Motor Auction (bmar) are every Moday, Wednesday & Friday at 6pm.
No you don't have to be a professional car buyer, we welcome both motor traders and private customers alike.
Make yourself known to the auctioneer. This is best achieved by a clear raising of the hand or catalogue.
The required deposit is 10% of the vehicle hammer price or £200, whichever is greater.
This is when the final bid in the auction hall is below the seller's reserve price. In this case we will take your details and deposit, submit your bid to the owner of the vehicle, and carry out the negotiation on your behalf.
The buyer's fee covers you against the vehicle being a stolen vehicle or subject to an undercharged higher purchase agreement. If it transpires that the vehicle is a stolen vehicle or has outstanding finance and the matter can not be resolved, you will be able to return the vehicle to us and have the hammer price refunded.
All vehicles must be paid for by noon the day after the sale. It does not matter if you can't take the vehicle away immediately, but payment must be made promptly.
Once you have paid for the vehicle you will receive the relevant documentation. This will include the green slip from the V5 (if applicable), MOT (if applicable), along with any other documentation that we received from the vendor.
Once the hammer falls you enter a legal contract with the vendor to purchase the vehicle. If you fail to pay for a vehicle you will forfeit your deposit and you will not be allowed to purchase from the auction again.
We accept Cash, Credit and Debit Cards. NB. Cash surcharge 1%+VAT, Credit Card 3%+VAT, Debit Card £1+VAT

- Bring the vehicle to us on the sale day or the working day before
- Complete an entry form & hand over the vehicles paperwork and keys
- Then leave the rest to us
We do not take any fees upon entering the vehicle. All charges are deducted from the sale price, or payable upon collection of an unsold vehicle.
The vehicle can be dropped off with us on either the day of the auction or the working day before.
If you do not have a V5 you will be asked for photo and address identification and potentially proof of ownership. If the vehicle does not have an MOT we will enter it into the auction, but you must bear in mind that it will have an effect on the sale price.
Due to a change in legislation any vehicle tax refund is now sent to the registered keeper. If you are the registered keeper you can keep the tax disc and apply for a refund for any remaining full months. If you are not the registered keeper you will not be able to do this and should leave the tax with the car.
Payment is sent out by cheque, four working days after the sale of the vehicle.
We will collect vehicles within the local are for a small collection fee (dependent on mileage / MOT etc).
